For the 2026/2027 season, the Pászti subscription will once again offer a diverse anthology of choral works and oratorios for lovers of vocal music, with the artistic excellence of the Hungarian National Choir, led by choirmaster Csaba Somos, at its heart. Across the three concerts on the season ticket, audiences will hear French Romantic and turn-of-the-century compositions, 20th-century American choral music, and the melodies of Rachmaninov and Prokofiev. The closing concert will feature a full evening’s selection from Mendelssohn’s sacred choral works, which also incorporate Baroque influences and are set to Greek, German and Latin texts. The choirs of Camille Saint-Saëns and Morten Lauridsen alternate with one another as we admire Fauré’s rarely performed, distinctive Requiem, discover Rachmaninov’s delectable cantata Spring, and once again encounter the great Russian late-Romantic’s visionary and suggestive choral symphony The Bells, which was inspired by Edgar Allan Poe. The Mendelssohn evening promises a profound experience thanks to the composer’s grand, eight-movement oratorio-like opus, Lauda Sion, which draws on a medieval Latin sequence. The concerts will be conducted by Béni Csillag, who lives and works in the Netherlands, Csaba Somos, director of the Hungarian National Choir, and György Vashegyi, general music director of the Hungarian National Philharmonic. Among the soloists, we will welcome such artists as Polina Pasztircsák, Attila Fekete, Levente Molnár, Eszter Balogh, Zoltán Megyesi, Zsombor Cserményi, and the world-renowned Argentine soprano Mercedes Arcuri.
