Andonis Foniadakis’ latest choreography, created for Ballet Pécs, explores Baroque themes in a dynamic and deeply expressive way, and from the perspective of contemporary dance and music.
The production highlights the vitality, speed and explosive expressive power of the era, while also engaging in a dialogue with the present day. In his choreography, Foniadakis draws inspiration from the principle of counterpoint, and translates it into the language of movement. Each dancer – like a voice in a Baroque fugue – introduces their own motif, which intertwines with the motifs of the others to create a unified yet complex whole. This innovative approach is evident not only in the choreography but also in the music. Julien Tarride’s contemporary electronic soundscape breathes new life into the Baroque style and its modern interpretation. These sonic elements heighten the key moments from the introduction, through the transitions between pieces, all the way to the grand finale.
