Ms. Lisa Fischer was a backing vocalist for Luther Vandross, the Rolling Stones, Sting, Tina Turner and the Nine Inch Nails for many decades before winning a Grammy Award under her own steam with her R’n’B hit How Can I Ease The Pain.

Covering the songs of Weather Report, one of the most influential bands in jazz history, is a pleasure for any musician, but when Kurt Elling, one of the leading baritones of our time, takes on this task, and joins creative forces with Yellowjackets, the flagship of fusion jazz still going strong with unflagging energy after nearly five decades, the event becomes a veritable celebration of the genre.

People magazine once suggested that Eliane Elias does more to shore up international relations than the UN. This pianist, singer, composer and arranger with several Grammies and Latin Grammies to her name has created a unique and instantly recognisable musical world by fusing jazz and Brazilian music.

Now 89 years old, and active since the 50s, the Brazilian Hermeto Pascoal is one of the biggest living legends in the Latin jazz world, yet he has never performed in Budapest before. He started out making music with the stars of the local scene in the 60s, and was making records with Miles Davis by 1971.

The members of Trio Squelini, specialising in ethno-jazz and contemporary chamber music with a unique instrumental lineup, have been playing together in various bands and recordings for years.

“There is a devil at work in every bar, in every part, the sound is fizzling”, writes the critic of Magyar Narancs, who later describes a “charming boogaloo jazz”, and then declares that “the exuberant vigueur and the joy of making music shines through every note”.

One of the founders of bebop, Dizzy Gillespie was a fantastic musician with a wonderful personality. It is by keeping these values front and centre that the Dizzy Gillespie Big Band continues the tradition started by the legendary trumpet-playing songwriter and band leader.
